The paperwork has been filed and I am now in the race for Collier County Commissioner District 2 (See the Supervisor of Elections entry here). There is a qualifying period in which the campaign will have to pay a fee, but the fee is manageable, and other than that, as long as I am able to keep up with my financial reporting, I will be on the ballot in the November 3rd, 2026, general election, God willing. Unless the incumbent gets primaried, which is possible, I will be running against Chris Hall.
The candidacy was prepared after incumbent Mr. Hall told me, and others, that he would not be running for reelection in 2026. For whatever reason, Mr. Hall changed his mind and is now lying to me and everyone else, saying that he never said he would not run. A strange thing to lie about. I could have cancelled my campaign but I decided against it because I did not want to be jerked around by a liar, and also because Mr. Hall has very concerning connections with a man named Matt Hurley, who, in my opinion, is the center of a corruption network in the Collier GOP. Further, Mr. Hall, along with the other Commissioners in general continue to further a broken development pattern and there are many residents of the County that are not happy with this.
I have two focus issues, and a third if you count the purging of corruption:
1. Keep Collier's Character:
As Collier continues to grow and develop, the qualities that the original residents enjoyed and that the new residents were attracted by, are under threat. County government must guide the development of the County in a way that retains Collier's desirable qualities and prevents Southwest Florida from becoming disordered and broken.
2. A New Approach To Infrastructural Development:
The common approach to infrastructure development throughout the US marked by top-down, chunked development and ultra-rigid use-based zoning has led to ugly, dangerous, and financially and environmentally unsustainable places. We must take a different approach that promotes bottom-up, incrementally developed communities that we can live in rather than just drive to work in. Massive developers and other moneyed/powerful interests should not be the ones who dictate where and how people live in their own communities.
Examples of this approach could include (but of course must be done in consultation and partnership with the constituents of the County): restoring the concept of "corner stores" in otherwise exclusively residential zones, incrementally transitioning the County to more form-based zoning rather than use-based, and dividing the County into Wards, micro-units of government, in accordance with Thomas Jefferson's vision. As I said, these things must be done in cooperation with the constituents of the County, so I am looking to form a committee to work towards correcting the development pattern here in Collier County. If you'd like to be involved with that, please send my campaign an email (CodyDavis@JeffersonianPartyFL.com) and let me know your interest. It will most likely meet monthly.
3. Purging corruption:
A wealthy and well-connected man involved with the Collier GOP named Matt Hurley was given over 24,000$ to his companies by Chris Hall during his 2022 campaign. He also gave about 6,000$ to Lakeside Media, which Mr. Hurley is very closely affiliated with. It is my understanding that Mr. Hall is very intimate with Mr. Hurley and intends to continue to work with him for his 2026 campaign. Mr. Hurley's data firm, Victory Insights was the #1 sponsor of the most recent fundraising event put on by the Collier GOP.
Matt Hurley committed "election fraud" in the 2024 Naples Mayoral race according to Collier Supervisor of Elections Melissa Blazier and the former treasurer of the Win America PAC (An organization involved with the scandal), William Jones. Besides the alleged election fraud, which Matt Hurley is currently being investigated for by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Election Crimes Unit, there many other concerning details about his history. You can read all the details, with links, in this PDF below:
If you would like to get involved as a volunteer of my campaign, please reach out, and also please donate at CodyForCollier.com/donate. We are designing the campaign to do more with less, but some amount of money will always be necessary, so please help us stand up to entrenched powers by donating. We allow ACH transactions so that more of your money goes to my campaign, rather than to payment processing fees.
Thank you for your time, and whether you are Republican, Democratic, or among the many tens of thousands in Collier who have been alienated from both major parties, I hope you will vote for me on your ballot in the November 3rd, 2026 election. Only residents of District 2 will have the opportunity to vote for me on the ballot, but you are welcome and encouraged to help out in whatever way you can, regardless of where you are. Just reach out and tell us you'd like to help.
